Mederos Lab "Biophysics of ion channels"
Biophysics of ion channels and cardiorenovascular mechanosensation
Head: Prof. Dr. Michael Mederos y Schnitzler
The work group is working on the following research topics:
- Structure-function relationships especially of receptor-operated cation channels
- Physiological and pathophysiological roles of receptor-operated cation channels
- Mechanosensitivity of G protein-coupled receptors
- Detection of conformational changes of ion channels and G protein-coupled receptors
Selected methods:
- Patch-clamp technique
- fluorescence optical methods (FRET, TIRF, FRAP, calcium imaging)
- molecular biology
- video microscopy on blood vessels (myogenic tone, flow-induced vasodilation)
