The research challenge:
The research group of Prof. Dr. Michael Mederos y Schnitzler at Walther Straub Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology offers a PhD position.
The research focus of the international and interdisciplinary orientated Institute is on receptor pharmacology, signal transduction and calcium-permeable cation channels.
The aim of the research project is the characterization of conformational changes of G-protein coupled receptors.
Beside a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art molecular and cell biological methods, the research group adopts diverse fluorescence-based approaches (FRET, calcium imaging, FRAP and TIRF) and has in expertise in electrophysiological patch clamp techniques.
We are looking for:
The ideal doctoral candidate should be highly motivated and should have a strong background in Biology, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Biomedical sciences or related disciplines. He/she should have finished their studies with an excellent final degree. The candidate should have a pronounced interest in biophysical and fluorescence-optical techniques. In addition, competent knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry is desirable. Animal experiments are not required for this PhD project. Good command of English in speech and writing is necessary.
